10 Things to know before moving to Kansas City

6/27/2019

We know that barbecue in Kansas is legendary, but there is more to this city than what we already know. It may not be as grand as New York or Chicago, but Kansas is remarkable in its own right with delectable food and attractive homes at more affordable prices. Before you settle in Kansas City, take time to read some of the things you need to know about it.

  1. Kansas City extends to the states of Missouri and Kansas. You might get questions about how life in Kansas is when you actually live in Missouri. Kansas City, MO and Kansas City, KS are two separate cities with different governments. Keep that in mind.
  2. You probably want to purchase a car before relocating to Kansas because the primary mode of transportation in the city is the Metro bus system which doesn't go to the extent of the 315-square mile metro area.
  3. If there is one advantage to living in Kansas City, that is you can buy a decent home for $100,000. You can score a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home with $200,000.
  4. Don't be surprised to get visitors on your first day in your neighborhood because people in Kansas City are naturally friendly and warm. You will be invited to dinner events and block parties. You don't even have to mention your name in your new-found favorite coffee shop because the barista remembers it.
  5. Head to the Power & Light District's KCLive on the weekend for a night filled with food, music, and drink. "Watch parties" are also a thing here like when the entire city cheered the Kansas City Royals in the 2015 World Series.
  6. Another thing to love about Kansas is the airport. You don't have to go through the hassle of catching connecting flights. If you're two hours early, you will find yourself having a cup of tea for an hour and a half and relaxing before your trip.
  7. Blame it to the vision of the early planners of the city. Right now, Kansas has over 200 registered fountains in the downtown area. That is not including fountains at home and in private properties.
  8. Boulevards abound in the city. It has more than 151 miles of connected multi-lane streets throughout the city. These avenues ease traffic by offering alternate routes.
  9. One of the largest farmers' markets in the Midwest is in Kansas City. You can see a lot of these farmers' markets on weekends and even in the middle of the week throughout the city.
  10. They say that the best things in life are free and that's the same thing for some of the best tours in Kansas City. Entrance to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the hallmark Visitors, and the Contemporary Art are absolutely free. For everyone who loves to learn about motorcycles, you can go on a free tour in the Harley-Davidson Vehicle and Powertrain Operations facility. Calling the attention of beer lovers! Boulevard Brewing Company offers a free trip for everyone who loves a cold glass of beer.

Every homeowner wants to have healthy and gorgeous trees, but only a few of them realize the value of residential tree service. Landscape trees need all the care they can get to make sure they remain healthy and live for many years. A beautiful yard doesn't just happen. It needs work and the right approach to keep trees in good health. You may think that tree maintenance is smooth as a walk in the park, but that is not the case. There's a lot of work involved in keeping trees healthy and beautiful including pruning and regular trimming.

In some cases, a homeowner does his pruning and trimming, given that he has the knowledge to do it. However, if you don't know the right process and you have not tools to help you, leaving it to the experts is the best thing to do. Amateurs should never do large scale projects such as tree removal because of the risks involved in completing the task. Aside from safety and convenience, there are other reasons why you should leave a tree service to the professionals.

Keeps the Trees Strong
It is crucial to trim weak branches to make way for stronger ones. When weak branches are cut off, there's less chance for them to grow in wrong directions, snap or get crossed.

You also want to keep the symmetry in your tree to keep it attractive. Keeping the proportion of the tree doesn't only ensure its aesthetic appeal but also maintain its balance. If branches only grow in one side, the tree could lean towards one side which can be a threat to the structure near it.

Trees Remain Healthy
Removing dead branches does not only benefit the tree's structure, but it also improves its health. Deadwood can affect health and strong branches by hindering light and air to get through. These two elements are essential for any tree to survive. Moreover, if branches grow too close to each other, they will compete for space and sunlight. If this happens, one or two branches will become malnourished and start to have a decline in its health and appearance. Routine pruning and trimming ensure that there are enough sunlight and air that circulates throughout the tree.

Property Values Appreciation
Trees can make any property look amazing, whether it is a residential or commercial property. Trees increase the value of your property and attract potential buyers. They are the first thing people look at when they visit your vicinity. If you have trees that are well taken care of, people will want to keep coming back to your home because of the positive and relaxing effect your trees have on them.

Pruning and trimming are necessary, to ensure that your trees are in good shape. If you see overgrown branches or dead limbs, it is time to call a professional tree company. Don't wait for your tree to become lopsided and become a threat to the safety of your home and loved ones.
